SAMPLE LESSONS

Before viewing our videos

Before viewing our videos, it is essential that you think about how you have been doing math. Realize that you have been attacking math problems the same way for years--writing before you even think about the problem.

Instead, I want to encourage you to think about the problem before you write anything.

Note:
"Your hand only does what your brain tells it to do;
The concept is not in your hand."

How It Works

Woman with Laptop

1: without writing anything, look at the problem presented.

Then, reread what you are being asked to do with the problem. Don't assume every problems is the same, just because you are used to seeing it presented a certain way. Be sure of what you are being asked to do to that particular problem.

Watching a Video

2: view the video in its entirety for understanding of concepts and ideas--not just procedures.

Watch it all the way through, mentally noting important concepts. Take the time to talk about the math before doing anything. (no writing!)

Writing

3: make connections between the procedures and the concepts.

Many people struggle with math because they focus on memorizing procedures rather than understanding underlying concepts. This often leads to confusion when faced with unfamiliar problems on a test. Instead of just copying steps, it's crucial to grasp the concepts so you can apply them to various situations in the future.

Math Class

4:changing your process for learning math will be of a great benefit to you.

If you keep doing what hasn't worked in the past, you'll keep struggling with math. It’s frustrating to be stuck, but there will always be new challenges and tests. To truly understand math and succeed, you need to try a different approach. It’s important for your long-term learning and goals.
